Single pane windows are windows with only one glass. Experts do not recommend these types because they do not provide good insulation. Most of them will tell you to buy double pane windows because it uses an air trapping technology that traps the air in between the two glasses. Now, there are also windows that come in three panes. Having three glasses, it does provide better insulation, because of the same function that the air that seeps through the window is trapped twice within the space in between each glass. However, this also means steeper price.

Question: I have an older storm window that won’t stay in the “up” position. It seems it doesn’t “fit” the track tightly enough. I’ve heard people say you can just “pin it up”, but I wasn’t sure if that literally meant setting in screws into the track just below where the window should sit so that it rested on those, allowing it to stay ‘up’. I don’t need to move it up and down frequently, so this is functionally okay for me. I just wanted to know if there was a better approach.Answer: If you have the older style storm windows made from aluminum that simply slide up and down with slide catches on the lower sides, it is possible that the catches do not engage.
