Audacious!

Posted by Anthony Turner under Gardening Tips

Im a big fan of Stephen Pressfield and his recent book Do The Work makes a great point that I dont think too many folks really understand. And that is you dont start at the beginning, you start at the end.

I note that his earlier book The War of Art makes the same point in a much longer and detailed way. I have both and if youre really interested, go with the War of Art.

I know this may sound counter-intuitive but think of it as going on a trip. You have to know where youre going before you start driving. Its a lot easier to avoid the old you cant get there from here line if you get yourself lined up right in the first place with a destination.

I find way too many writers transitioning to the Net do not consider where they want to wind up before they start their creative work. And frankly they do not as a rule dare to dream large enough.

While I started with dreams and goals in 2005, I now realize I hadnt taken the time to dream large enough. Having reached the first set of goals two years ago, I had to start redreaming and it wasnt until last November that I really began to understand the power of audacious dreaming.

Its one thing to set a traffic goal and its quite another thing to reach those goals and ask now what?. More traffic? More of the same? Once you can do something once, the challenge is reduced. More traffic becomes just another morning chore rather than an energizing activity. And creative folk in any activity need that internal challenge, that internal growth, that new idea to fuel their life.

So my latest challenge is to dream bigger than I ever have, to redream a life rather than a career, to redream the bucket-lists, to direct a creative life towards interesting options.

And the point of all this is simply to suggest that you avoid my mistakes, to suggest you take a look at your creative dreams and make them bigger. Go audacious or go home.

p.s. audacious dreams are no good without planning, evaluating and activity changing along the way to respond to real time events in your life.

p.p.s. Audacious goals demand audacious activities. Get some.
